Star Card

Hello Again,

Here I am spoiling you all with a couple of posts in a row!

This is a very bright, fun card that I’ve made for the Card Crafters Circle’s 4th challenge – Make it Colourful.

This is a new shape for me – a Star Card! It wasn’t as difficult as it looks, just a matter of measuring, cutting and scoring in the right places. I used a template provided to me by my friend Trish, however there are some wonderful tutorials on You Tube.

I had a an absolute blast making this card, using bright funky star paper, another freebie from Australian Simply Cards – I love that Mag! The other paper is from the Kaiser Class of 86 6” paper pad.

The flowers I have made myself, using a tutorial on Valitas Designs & Fresh Folds , where she made some hydrangeas. I altered the design a little, adding a layer and as my heart punch has a scalloped edge to it the flowers that I made look quite different.

There are so many products on this card – Kaiser organza ribbon is something I found in the bargain bin at Kaiser Robina just before Christmas and treated myself to a couple of cards of all different colours, I topped it with red pearl gems to go with the flower centres.

The Celebrate and Champagne glasses are stamped from an unknown clear stamp, and the glasses coated in Dimensional Magic after sprinkling some clear gems about for bubbles.

The back of the card actually shows through to the front when it is folded shut, so these areas were also covered in stars – Theresa Collins papers I believe.

On the front I have stamped an SU sentiment “you are special” and a lovely solid flower from a single cling stamp. I used SU Tangerine Tango ink to go with the cardstock and then sponged over with Daffodil Delight. I left the circle spellbinder in place while I sponged to get a white border.

It’s the first time ever making this Star shape and the Organza ribbon from Kaiser is new from my Christmas haul, so I think I qualify for both the following challenges..

UIU Take a Pledge with me to USE IT UP

Hi Everyone,

I came across the most brilliant idea online today and just had to share the thought , concept, pledge to Use It UP.

Instead of shopping and spending money I am pledging 

to Use It UP – what’s in my stash.

The concept has been started by Fran , and if you want to take the pledge too you can pop on over to her blog and get the button and sign up to post about your efforts each month. 

This should keep us accountable that’s for sure!

Here are some tips from recycled from Fran on how to go about UIU (using it up) :

• Take some time and go “shopping” in your stash. You know all those things you bought and forgot about!
  
• Trading / swapping: If you haven’t got what you’re after, maybe your bestie does?
  
• Rethink it: Do you really need it? Can you use an alternative that you do have?
  
• Recycling is your best friend! Everything from a tin can to bottle top can be used if you use your imagination!
  
• Resale vs. Retail: Check out the Lifeline or St Vincent stores, you may be surprised.
  
• Set a budget. Oooh dreaded word that – especially to a bookkeeper lol. You will actually need to replace essentials which will require shopping, however, don’t go overboard – just get in to the shops, get what you need, and get out fast! That's my plan anyway !

Remember this will be a pledge to yourself and only you can hold yourself accountable for it and with love and support from other UIU pledgers!

Christmas Bird

Hi Everyone,

I know you are all probably sick and tired of Christmas cards after the last month, however, I have decided that I need to make at least one a month to avoid the end of year rush!

This little card was very simple to make. The paper is from Kaiser, the background is a Spellbinder Labels Two die cut from the centre of the paper revealing the card underneath. (I used the die cut on something else).

There are 3 different SU punches – Bird punch, oval & scallop oval punch. The sentiment is a small Seasons Greetings from one of the $2 shop sets that I picked up and a bit of twine is wrapped around behind it.

Oh and a little pearl for the birds eye and there you have it!

 really like the colours and the fact that the image is not too “christmassy”.

Birthday Card–today is your day

Hello Everyone,

A little time off is doing wonders for the time spent in girl world these holidays. I had a wonderful day with my friend Trish from Trish and Treasure who came over to share my stuff and have some fun. Trish even managed to record a tutorial while she was here, you gotta love her!

This card is not one that I made today – it didn’t turn out how I wanted it to and as this is competition week at Mojo Monday, I really wanted a stand out card to be in it to win it! So I went back to Girl World and started again!

I was lucky to find more free papers amongst my Australian Simply Cards magazines that all co-ordinated. 

I think this really helps! Here's a close up. I coloured the little cupcake with Copic pens.

 

That little cupcake stamp is from docrafts papermania and just happens to be the matching set to the die set that I am giving away with my Blog Candy.

 Now that I’ve found it (and used it, sorry ), I will add it to the candy that will be sent to a randomly chosen winner when I finally reach 133 followers.

Mind you I hand cut the cupcake so the die is definitely new, I didn’t realise it was the same as the die until I got inside to the computer and the die was in front of me!

So I guess – today really is your day – to enter My Candy ! lol

Gift Bag of Cards

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to 2012!

Hope you all had a fun time celebrating New Years Eve if that’s your thing, it was certainly my thing this year and I went a little overboard with the alcohol so I’m sharing this post with you a little late and a little sore headed on the first day of the year!

   

I made this cute bag of cards all packaged ready to be given as a gift – Just Saying Hello is the theme and there are 6 cards inside that all say Hello. Stampin Up’s modern label punch makes the handle. How cool is that!

I was inspired by my good friend Trish to make this set and have unashamedly copied her work – flattery gets me everywhere I can tell you! Click here to see Trish’s version of this. 
At least I didn’t copy the theme! lol

These little pockets inside are embossed to match the embossing on the front of the cards.

The decorative papers are from My Minds Eye. I’ve cut one of the paper flowers out and layered it onto a Stampin Up Flower Punched matching cardstock and finished with a chocolate sprinkle from an Annabelles Stamps challenge win a while ago. A great tip is to hand draw the outlines inside the punched flowers for some definition using various coloured gel pens.

Have done the insides too !    

Hero Arts Cling Hello stamp, and some sewing underneath really adds a bit of zing. There are also Stampin Up Beatiful Wings sizzlit butterflies here and there.

Hot Pink Wedding Card

Hi Everyone,

I’m back to share this Wedding Card in Hot Pink and Black using the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die and some gorgeous Theresa Collins paper that Australian Simply Cards Magazine kindly provided with one of their recent issues.

I’ve used the Mojo Monday Sketch #221 which looks like this…

It’s the last one of the year and I think I’ve done well with my “Consistency Plan” – I had promised myself to be consistent throughout the year and do the Mojo sketch each week – okay, well maybe I missed some Mojo Mondays but a whole new year is afoot and I can try again.

There’s quite a lot going on here – the flowers are cut from cardstock, the bottom one had some paper torn and stuck to black card before I ran it through the big shot with the die. The second one I cut and then stamped with a Stampin Up Fifth Avenue Floral stamp, and the top one was cut from glitter paper and topped with a black rhinestone. 

The layers beneath the flower have all been distressed, inked and silver paint swiped over them here and there.

The frame around the sentiment is something new to me - it comes from Kaiser as a blank wooden frame and I've painted mine silver and tied off some paper twine to eyelet.

The inside was decorated with the papers too and this stamp is a Kaiser sentiment. I love the swirly writing. I punched the edges of the bottom layer with a Martha Stewart arched lattice edge punch as it was almost the same pattern as the paper.

Can you see the curls sticking out of the flower – they are just thin strips of paper. I saw this lovely little trick on another blog whilst browsing around and thought it a brilliant idea.
